AI Usage and Plagiarism Policy for Students

At Nouveau, we are committed to maintaining the integrity and academic excellence of our programs. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in completing assignments and coursework is strictly regulated to ensure that all work submitted reflects the student’s own learning and capabilities.
1. Definition of AI-Generated Work
AI-generated work refers to any content that is produced, written, or heavily influenced by AI tools or programs, such as ChatGPT, automated essay generators, or any other software that produces text or responses based on prompts or inputs. This includes but is not limited to assignments, essays, reports, projects, and any other coursework intended to assess a student’s understanding.
2. Prohibition of AI-Generated Work
It is prohibited for students to submit any work that has been created or assisted by AI in any form, unless explicitly allowed by the instructor.
This includes:

Using AI tools to write, edit, or generate ideas for assignments or assessments.

Copying and pasting AI-generated text without substantial original input from the student.

Submitting content generated by AI without appropriate citations or acknowledgment of its use, if permitted.
3. Academic Integrity and Expectations
As part of our commitment to academic integrity, students are expected to complete assignments independently, reflecting their own knowledge and abilities. Submitting AI-generated work undermines the educational process and violates the principles of honesty and originality.
4. Consequences of Submitting AI-Generated Work
Any student found to have submitted work that is determined to be AI-generated or substantially AI-assisted will face the following consequences:

Automatic Failure of the Course: The student will receive a failing grade for the course in question.

No Refund: In the case of AI involvement in coursework, there will be no refund or credit given for any tuition fees paid for the course.

Further Disciplinary Action: Depending on the severity and recurrence of the violation, additional disciplinary action may be taken, including suspension or expulsion from the institution.
5. Detection and Monitoring
The institution reserves the right to use software tools and manual methods to detect AI-generated content in any submitted work. We will also check for signs of plagiarism, including similarities to publicly available AI content. Students found to have violated this policy will be subject to immediate review.
6. Student Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that:

All work submitted is entirely their own, unless otherwise stated by the instructor.

Any use of AI tools for learning purposes (such as research or assistance with understanding topics) is done transparently and in line with academic guidelines.

They seek clarification from faculty or tutors if unsure about the use of AI tools for assignments.
7. Exceptions
In some cases, AI tools may be permitted or encouraged as part of an assignment or course component. Such instances will be explicitly outlined by the instructor in the assignment guidelines. Any AI usage outside of these authorized exceptions will be considered a violation of this policy.
8. Appeal Process
If a student believes they have been wrongfully accused of submitting AI-generated work, they may appeal the decision in writing to the Academic Appeals Committee. The appeal must be submitted within 10 business days of the notification of the violation. The committee will review the evidence and make a final determination.
9. Policy Changes
This AI Usage and Plagiarism Policy may be subject to revision as technology evolves and as new tools and methods of academic dishonesty emerge. Students will be notified of any changes to the policy in a timely manner.
